Northern Lights

Tonight, I got out of the shower, put on my pajamas and went back into the room where I was met with "there's northern lights!!!!"

I grabbed my camera and a sweater and ran out. Unfortunately they weren't strong, so a picture would've just looked black, but it was still pretty.
I have heard that they usually come 2-3 times around now, so I'm gonna keep my camera close and keep you updated!

Making my brothers proud

Since I now play soccer twice a week, my body is all bruised and red, but I have so much fun :) Who knows? Maybe I'll beat Mads and Klaus like I did with some of the boys here yesterday, one day :)

Today is auditions for the first year show, so I'm gonna watch people perform all day.
I also wrote my first Spanish hand-in and backed rugbrød.

Not this week, but the week after, we have PBL-week (Project Based Learning). You could sign up for a bunch of different things, both on campus and away from, but I'm staying here and taking "Chinese language and culture." She promised us good food :) Haha.

This Wednesday is a college-fair for 2nd years and a Red Cross Day for us. Lets see what that is about.

Memorial

Tonight, 2 months after the bomb in Oslo and the shootings on Utøya, we, as a Nordic United World College, had a memorial for those who was killed and those who were touched by this.

It was all planned and done by the Norwegian students and I must say it was the most touching and most beautiful thing I've been to.
With music, quotes, silence, candles and each other, the room was filled with tears and broken hearts. It was so unique to have so many representatives from different countries really coming together as one - Uniting.

"UWC makes education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future."

I think everyone felt that tonight, we stood together as one and knew why we were here. We were truly there for each other and without words, I think everyone felt how we are one big family at this place.

It was amazingly touching and hard, but I think it will help us as a college, to move on and continue our daily life, of course always with the memory of those lost.

Life as an RCNUWC student

For now, I'm gonna stick to this blog, therefore I'm posting this again, for those who didn't get to see it on the link I sent yesterday.

Busy life has kicked in and I just want to apologize now, for not being easy to contact for the next two weeks, until the first year show is over.

I have my normal EAC’s Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (+ student council on Saturday), a tooon of homework (starting to pile up), a trip with the “Nordiskspråk” students tomorrow, to hear about some writer from Dale, auditions, rehearsals and a show with Sweden house and the European day to think about. And then of course some sleep, food and chill-time in between.

I hope that explains enough for now :)

So long!

2nd year show

So now I can finally write about this, because before today I wasn't supposed to know :)
Tonight was the second years show. It was made of a lot of different performances and sketches and it was really funny, but here's the deal.
Every first year has to have two campus-responsibilities and I signed up for lighting the shows. Therefore, I've been to practices and different rehearsals with them, and had already seen the show. The school had also failed, and put the show on the calender, so all first years knew about it.
In two weeks is our first year show, so we're keeping busy! :)

I also signed up for life-guarding, but I have to take a test first, and I don't know when that will happen.

Take care!

Pictures and election

Today is the danish election and I wouldn't miss it. I'm gonna stay up all night and watch it with the Danes and whoever is interested, so you won't need to keep me updated.

Here are some pictures:

Pictures on some of my bed. I just wanna point out that I'm cleaning at this moment, so everything you see on the pictures and kinda messy.
This is my Wall of Quotes, but it's not done yet :)

The next picture is my desk after a night of studying :)

Here's a picture of our bathroom mirrors and the little note, that gives 5 girls on campus a good morning every day :)

The next picture is just to thank my mom for sending me the ribbon :)

And of course a picture of the fjord!

Football with disabled

Today I got into the EAC (extra academic commitments) that I've been hoping to: football with disabled. There was 4 spots, 2 boys and 2 girl, and we were about twice as many people who wanted it, so we drew a stick and luckily I got in!

This means that I for the two years here, will go to Dale and play football together with 3 other first-years, four second years and about five handicapped (mentally though.) It was a lot of fun, especially because I think football is a fun game, but I suck at it :) In this way we can have fun, but it's really more about passing the ball to them and letting them shoot at the goal and have fun.

Other than this I am in the Amnesty International group and Friday Ball Games, where I play badminton, but these two EAC's are only for this term, then I can pick new ones or continue.

I also went to a presentation, that a RCN 06 graduate held about life after UWC, dreams and reality and what to do. It was really interesting, but also really long. I went straight from that to a meeting with some first years, trying to decide where to go for November break. I think we're gonna go to Prague, but some are still arguing for Amsterdam. We'll find out for sure on Friday.

I hope to post some pictures tomorrow.
So long,
Mette

Fire Drill

Picture of 1st year "cheerleaders" from last weeks 1st years vs. 2nd years football match :)

This morning, a little before 6am, the fire alarm went off. Everybody went out in the cold and to the canteen, where we each house has a specific spot. Here we check if every room is present and we were. The word was, that there was a fire in Norway house and there was even put in fake smoke, so when we passed it, we actually thought it had caught on fire, but fortunately it was just a drill.

Fire safety is really important here, because all the houses are made of wood and we live so far out, that the whole student village will be burning, before the firetrucks gets here.

Anyways, it was just a drill, so I was back in my bed at 6:15am.

Today, I am going to Friday ball games from 2:15-4:25pm. At 7, there's the usual World Today debate, but I don't know the topic for today. After that is today's movie and the Snikkabua (café).
Other than homework, my only plans for the weekend is the Student Counsil Meeting on Sunday, so we'll see what happens :)

Everything's still great here!
Today's the weekly Saturday Night Party and the theme is "famous people."
Wonder what I'm gonna go as? :)

Here's a picture from last weeks party, where every room chose a theme and we went as sheep. SH 103 <3
